Engagement Photos in Salt Lake City, Utah
Now that you’ve found your forever sweetheart and you’re ready to take the plunge, it’s time to share the big news of your upcoming wedding with all your friends and family!
Many soon-to-be brides wonder if professional engagement photos are really necessary or if they are worth the hassle and expense. We say yes…and not just because we’re wedding photographers!
First, even if you and your honey already have some great snapshots of the two of you, they don’t always translate into beautiful announcements and print enlargements. When it comes to sharing your big news on social media, a wedding website, or even a save the date card, you’ll want to look your best.
Professional engagement photos are a great way to let your personalities and connection shine, share your excitement, and to show off the ring! Plus, casual and expressive photos of the couple are often used as décor at the reception or wedding venue and are so fun to hang on the walls of your new home after the wedding is over.
Why should we take engagement pictures?
As social media trends have changed over the years, so have preferences. Many moons ago, engagement pictures were used primarily for the social sections in the newspaper to announce the couple’s upcoming wedding. Then couples began including color prints with their wedding invitations. Nowadays, a couple’s engagement pictures are used for just about everything from social media to table centerpieces.
We recommend you have your engagement pictures taken shortly after your sweetie pops the question and you start the wedding planning process. That way you’ll have some fun updated photos to use in all the different places that help brand your wedding as an event that isn’t to be missed!

Engagement pictures can be fun!
Engagement sessions are a time to get creative! We love taking our couples to fun and unusual places that reflect their style and interests. We love the Salt Lake City area and know all kinds of great off-beat places that make for great photoshoots.
Your engagement is the beginning of a new chapter in your life. It’s fun to have photographs that reflect that. Even if you’re naturally camera shy, your photographer can help you through that, help ease the tension and anxiety, and make you look like a model…even if you aren’t one!
Engagement photos are also practical.
There are also some practical reasons to have professional engagement portraits taken. First, they are a practice run for the big day. No matter how many albums or galleries a bride looks through, it can be difficult to imagine what their own wedding pictures will actually look like. Nor it is easy to assess what your photographer’s style really is and how it will mesh with your own until you actually work with them.
Having your engagement pictures done by your wedding photographer, rather than just a friend with a cell phone, will give you a great opportunity to learn what is expected on your wedding day. Plus, you’ll be guaranteed that all your pictures will have a consistent look and feel to them.
If you’re worried about cost, know that almost all our wedding photography packages include an engagement session as part of the package deal. Most of them also include a bridal portrait or pre-wedding formal couple’s session as well.
Perhaps one of our favorite reasons to have engagement pictures taken is that they stand the test of time. While other pictures will come and go over time as styles and families change, but the engagement photos mark the beginning of it all. They are the ones that tend to stay on the wall forever and that you’ll look back on years later and say “We were so cute and young!
